the problem is mine or Blogger's...

This thimble is the one I have been trying to upload since Monday. We are supposed to be able to upload quite a large picture file on the blog however, I could not upload the original photo which is about 200 KB. My fault or Blogger's? I bought a new camera just before New Years holiday (means just before our trip to Europe) and it allows me to take far too superior pictures than my old one did. Finer picture means bigger files but I did some trimming so the pic file was a bit smaller than 200 KB, so it shouldn't have been a problem... Anyway I took another picture in smaller size and trimmed it again and here it is.

The design of this thimble looks quite simple, just threads running diagonally, doesn't it? Well, appearance can be deceiving and in this case, is deceiving. From the second round on, all the threads have to go beneath the already existing threads on the body and threads manipulation is really tricky and time consuming. Since there is no threads crossing each other, i.e. the threads covering the surface are quite loose, this thimble does not have any practical use other than looking great in the sewing basket.

I am now trying to make a thimble looks St Valentine Dayish. If it turnes out okay I will share it with you later this week.

Header of the blog

Have you noticed the header? I meant to add a header to my blog and my Etsy shop but it didn't look straight forward because there is a size restriction and I just kept kind of intentionally forgetting to do so. After putting the thimbles on the Etsy shelf however, I decided it's time to face it. Although I had to keep trimming and trimming the photo until achieved the acceptable size (and I had to take the second picture arranging the thimbles differently because no one could have figured out what was on the first picture after trimmed to so small a size), the result looks rather fine, if I may say so myself.

Now, I have been trying to upload the picture of my newest thimble but for some unknown reasons I have been denied. The auto save function doesn't look working properly, either, and perhaps the problem may not be mine but Blogger's. I will try uploading it later.

Joining the yahoo group

I made another sale at Etsy last weekend. This was my second at Etsy and I am really happy about this, not only for the sale, but also for the fact that the customer actually read my blog. When I made my first sale, I was happy, too, because the person who didn't know me at all, whom I didn't know and quite unlikely would ever meet liked my thimble well enough to buy it. But this time it's a little bit different, I cannot explain it well, but I felt, well, connected.

Then she mentioned in the order form that there was a yahoo group for the kind of thimbles I made. It is called "thimble_rings" and I haven't ever joined any groups before I decided to give it a try, like I hadn't ever owned my own blog but I gave it a try and I really like it. I am not sure the correct way to tell you how to find the group but I went to yahoo group page (US) and search it with thimble and rings as key words. You need membership to have a look what the group is doing but the membership is to exclude the spams, well, you cannot complain about that, then. The group is recently formed I was told, and right now there is no specific agenda, but pooling the resources from the members. If you are interested, please join us.

This is the one I made tonight. It makes me think of the sunshine and beachside. What does this inspire you?

Now I am back from the trip ...

I am back from the trip to Europe. After being away nearly a month, it's good to be home again. We visited London, Paris, Vienna, and Salzburg and had expected Salzburg the coldest but strangely it turned out it was Paris that gave us the most freezing experience. Actually there was virtually no snow in Vienna and Salzburg although we brought our snow boots with us even though they took a lot of space in our suitcases.

We enjoyed the operas, operettas, symphony orchestra, and Cirque du Soleil and bought some interesting and useful things and some not so interesting and not so useful things. One of the useful things we bought was a mug; a tall white mug with pink roses. A pale pink rose on the front and another rose in deep pink on the back and a small bud on inside and a much smaller bud on the handle and bottom respectively. We found it in Salzburg but it is an English bone chine, well, who cares what you buy in where, they are all European Union, right? Anyway it's a really beautiful mug; I fell in love in its shape firstly and roses design secondly.
I have a lot to tell you about and please come back soon. Thank you.

First Post in 2009

Traditionally, the first sewing has been making thimbles in Japan although there are few people nowadays who observe such tradition. Since I am on holiday in Europe and I haven't brought my sewing basket with me, there is no way I can make my own thimble here. So this is the one I created before our departure to Europe.

Thank you for reading my blog and I wish you all a happy and prosperous new year.
